These silver proof coins have a silver content of .999 and have a beautiful mirror finish.  The coins are stamped multiple times to make the most of their detailed design.  Only produced at the United States Mint, staff members are required to white gloves during production so as not to smudge their surface.  The die is polished by hand with three different types of diamond dust to ensure precision stamping.  These coins are also sealed to preserve their value.  They are delivered in a velvet box and include a certificate of authenticity.

The American Eagle coins played a unique role in the country’s financial history when President Ronald Reagan used them as a strategy to reduce the nation’s deficit.

Other facts about the Proof American Silver Eagle:

• Though the coins have a one-dollar face value, they have never been circulated as currency.
• The initial design featured Adolf Weinman’s Walking Liberty on the front (obverse) of the coin.
• The coin’s reverse shows an eagle perched majestically behind a shield, with arrows and olive branches. This was designed by U.S. Mint sculptor/engraver John Mercanti.
• The same design has been reused annually through mid-2021, with the only variation being the coin’s year.
• Starting in mid-2021, for the 35^th anniversary of the Proof American Silver Eagle, the U.S. Mint introduced new designs on the coin’s reverse side. This redesign includes high-tech security features, including a reeded edge variation designed to combat counterfeiting.  Also, the front of the coin has been enhanced using newer technology to add more details to the classic Walking Liberty image.
• The new reverse of the coin was designed by Artistic Infusion Program artist Emily Damstra. It featured a powerful depiction of an American bald eagle landing on its nest.
