The U.S. recently imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian goods and a 10% tariff on oil imports, prompting Canada to retaliate with its own 25% tariffs on various American exports.
While Trump exempted Mexico from tariffs under the USMCA agreement, no such deal has been reached with Canada. Smith remains hopeful for a resolution, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a strong trade relationship and calling for a swift renegotiation of the USMCA to restore tariff-free trade.
