America The Beautiful Silver Series

In 2008, Congress authorized the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act to commemorate the National Park System created by President Theodore Roosevelt.

Initially distributed in 2010, these coins quickly gained popularity with collectors and investors. That’s no surprise since they are stunning depictions of amazing locations.

Weighing in at 5 ounces each, they are the largest silver bullion coins created by the U.S. Mint. Since the outset, the Mint has released five new coins each year, with the series including 56 coins in total.

Each coin depicts a National Park or a National Site, such as the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park or the Gettysburg National Military Park.

Other details about these beautiful coins include:

• These coins are quarters and contain 0.999 pure silver.
• Uncirculated versions of these coins are available for collectors, and these coins can be identified by the “P” mint mark below the motto “In God We Trust” on the obverse (front side). These versions are minted with a matte finish created through vapor blasting. These collector versions ship in a presentation box and include a certificate of authenticity.
• Bullion versions of the coin do not include mint marks. The bullion coins have a mirror finish.
• The front of the coin (obverse) features a depiction of George Washington, initially designed by John Flanagan for the 1932 Washington Quarter.
• The coin’s reverse features an image from a National Park or other National Site.
• These quarters have a smooth edge instead of the reeded edge found on common quarters. The edge also is inscribed with the coin’s specifications (0.999 Fine Silver 5.0 Ounce).
